Public Space Public space is important to the community. It is where we gather, where we play and where we socialize. It can include active recreation or passive reflection. We must consider the balance between the built environment and public space. The health of our community relies on green spaces for good air quality, shade, water management and overall quality of life. Public Space can be the economic engine behind tourism and community growth, often serving as the catalyst for new development. Public input tells us that green space is an essential part of attracting new downtown residents. The South Broad Redevelopment Plan encourages a strong focus on rebuilding the areas "garden-like" qualities. The natural amenities, existing parks and opportunities for streetscape all add to the potential of this area to be a green oasis in the city. There are several ways the greening of South Broad can be accomplished. |
